Fire and Rescue Services

The Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) is well known for its commitment to engaging with local communities in all parts of the country. The FRS has been making a very important contribution to developing and sustaining good inter faith relations through its social action projects.

Inter Faith Week provides a great opportunity to connect with people of faith within the local communities which you serve.

You could...

  • Hold a seminar looking at the role of how the FRS and faith communities work together in an integrated local community to develop a safe and secure environment for all
  • Work with local faith community representatives to prepare fire safety briefings for places of worship or offer to run training seminars on fire safety issues relevant to faith communities, such as safe use of candles and incense, use of fire-proofed drapes and garlands, and planning evacuation procedures in old buildings
  • Participate in an Inter Faith Week event that is already happening in the local community
  • Run a short article in your newsletter, website or bulletin about Inter Faith Week and why inter faith issues are relevant to effective, community engagement and safety
  • Arrange a talk about inter faith relations from a FRS perspective
  • Arrange a multi faith sports competition between an FRS team and local faith community teams
  • The FRS can incorporate issues on inter faith with their current projects with young people
  • Organise a ‘living library’ event, where you invite local faith community members to be human ‘books’ which your members can ‘take out’ to talk with and learn from
  • Organise a ‘religious literacy’ day in partnership with a local inter faith group, local authority or local faith leaders to enable officers to learn about some of the main faiths active in your local community, and the various practices associated with each faith
  • Provide space for a local inter faith community event
