Then, in conversation with University of Sussex Lead Chaplain James Croft, he'll discuss what theists and nontheists can gain from being in dialogue, the differences between the interfaith movements in the United States and United Kingdom, and how people of different faiths and those of nonreligious beliefs can work together to improve the world we all share.

    Art Therapy

    Chelsea College of Arts, 16 John Islip St, London, SW1P 4JU. 16.00 – 18.00
How do you feel about being part of something bigger than yourself? Some people discover this through faith and a connection to God, while others find it in the vast universe, like the skies and the oceans. This can stem from our desires to look outside the borders of self and find well-being, solace, purpose, and inspiration.

Art therapy during Inter Faith Week aims to bring students with diverse perspectives to use art as a means of self-expression and exploration. Attendees may choose to share their art and discuss what it means to form a personal connection with something greater than themselves, be it through faith, an appreciation of nature, or other pathways.

This one-off therapeutic group session is scheduled for the first day of Inter Faith Week and is for students who are curious about religious belief, faith, the theme, or art therapy in general. All UAL students welcome.

Forced to Adapt (three short films by Deej Phillips)

    St John's Church, 73 Waterloo Road London SE1 8TY. 19.00 – 21.00
The climate crisis continues to wreak havoc disproportionately in the global south, often resulting in devastating losses to livelihoods and even life itself. In a bid to mitigate the impacts of the climate crisis, communities are constantly forced to adapt to their changing environments.

Anjana, Sreejith and Dipika are from vastly different regions of India, but all have one thing in common: they are having an invaluable impact on the lives of the people they share their communities with and beyond, by communicating and implementing low-cost and low-tech solutions to adapt to this unjust crisis.

Film #1: Mangrove Family – In Kerala, a family continues their father's extraordinary mangrove conservation legacy, resulting in greater protection for coastal communities from extreme weather events.

Film #2: Harvest Mother – In Maharashtra, Anjana dedicates her life to protecting her fellow farmers’ harvests from worsening droughts, with ingenious low-tech adaptation solutions.

Film #3: Climate Guardians – In Gujarat, Dipika travels door to door in her slum settlement to teach others how to be more resilient to the climate crisis, including how to cope with the increasingly brutal heat of the summer months.

Home is a fundamental concept that transcends borders and cultures. It's a place of safety, belonging, and community.

In the United Kingdom, housing justice is a pressing concern. Skyrocketing housing prices, a shortage of affordable housing, and systemic inequalities have left countless families facing homelessness, displacement, and insecurity. It's a crisis that demands our collective attention and action.

Online and in-person event hosted by the Centre for Muslim-Christian Studies Oxford - Drawing on his recently published book, The Muslim Difference (Yale 2022), Youshaa Patel explores the vexing Islamic discourse of reprehensible imitation (tashabbuh), a discourse that enjoins ordinary believers to embody and display their religious difference from Christians, Jews and others in public life. Moderating cross-cultural imitation and assimilation was as crucial to the construction of Muslim identity and alterity during Islam's formative period as it is today. This lecture situates the religious discourse within Islamic scripture and tradition, casting new light on a long history of how small differences have defined Muslim interfaith encounters.

This talk ties the reality of religious experience to the demands and outcomes of interreligious dialogue. The speaker is Revd Canon Dr Alan Race who is Chair of the World Congress of Faiths and the editor of its journal ‘Interreligious Insight’. If so, is that likely to appeal to how religious groups - is it how they would want to appear? Helen Baldry, who regularly reports on Christian groups in Norfolk, will help us discuss what sort of stories from religions can appeal, without distorting how people perceive religious people and practices. Join us to give us your views, share your stories, then we can go together better prepared to the event on 30 November.
