    Panel: Defining faith, between religion and culture?

    What does it mean to be a person of faith? What does faith mean to others? Approaching inter-faith or inter-religious relations, it is easy to make assumptions about terms based on our own background and experience. As part of UK Inter Faith Week, DivSoc Chair Lucy Lipfriend (an undergraduate student in the Faculty of Divinity, Cambridge) chairs discussion, inviting panellists to reflect on whether they identify as people of faith, and what the ingredients of such identity might be—cultural and/or religious.

    Inter Faith Week Event - God’s Justice in our World

    The Cathedral & Abbey Church of Saint Alban, Sumpter Yard, St Albans AL1 1BY (Entry via Visitors Entrance). 18.45 – 21.00
    In partnership with Luton based community initiative called GRASSROOTS Programme, The Church of England St Albans Diocese is hosting Inter Faith Week Event at St Albans Abbey.

    Besides input from different faiths, St Albans Abbey musicians have offered to play instrumental music and one of the school pupils are also making a presentation. For those interested, a short guided tour to the shrine of St Alban is also being arranged.

    Talk - After Belsen: Christian Encounters with Jews in the Aftermath of the Holocaust

    In post-war occupied Germany British and American Christians encountered Jews who had survived the years of Nazi persecution. In liberated concentration camps and Displaced Person centres, through interfaith campaigns and the immigration movement to Mandate Palestine, army chaplains, relief workers, and interfaith activists listened to survivor testimony. They witnessed the rebuilding of Jewish community life, debated their understanding of antisemitism, and advocated causes which could shape the future of Jews in Europe and elsewhere. This lecture will explore some of these unique stories of Christian-Jewish encounters in the wake of the Holocaust.…
