School Libraries

School libraries are a place of fun and learning, and that’s why they’re perfectly situated to host Inter Faith Week events

Below are some ideas for Inter Faith Week. These draw on successful activities held by school libraries in recent times. Most can be adapted, if needed, to be fully or partly virtual.

  • Create an Inter Faith Week book display in your library
  • Hold a themed story session
  • Read a book with an Inter Faith Week theme
  • Invite guests from local faith communities to tell a story from their faith tradition or history
  • Ask volunteers from your local inter faith organisation to talk about why people of different faiths come together for discussion and to cooperate on social projects - this could be followed by a discussion of how people with different faiths and beliefs can live in harmony
  • Initiate a plan to further diversify your collection to reflect different faiths in the local community
  • Organise an Inter Faith Week poetry or short story competition
  • Work with your RE and History departments to produce an exhibition of different faith perspectives on the importance of learning and knowledge – this could also feature historical libraries with a faith link
  • Host a lunchtime event such as a talk or “Question Time” with representatives from faith groups in the local area
  • Produce a video of pupils from different faiths talking about their favourite fictional characters who share their belief identity - create a display of these books
  • Provide Inter Faith Week themed activity sheets for pupils to enjoy at break times

If you hold an activity, please do take a few minutes to register it on the IFW website. If you register you will also be eligible for a free pack with Inter Faith Week stickers, a poster, flyers, and a blank message card on which to share an Inter Faith Week message!
