Faith and belief can be integral to people’s identity, how they see the world, and what is important to them. Knowledgeable and inclusive workplaces, which understand lived experiences and are able to meet employees’ needs, are essential to enabling individuals, teams, and organisations to thrive. Yet faith and belief inclusion is often overlooked, sometimes out of fear of ‘getting it wrong’. We can help.

This National Inter Faith Week, you are warmly invited to join The Faith & Belief Forum at our training space in Kentish Town for networking and discussion over breakfast. Presentations will explore the common myth that talking about religion is necessarily awkward and uncomfortable, and how this idea harms employers and employees. Get to know The Faith & Belief Forum's key principles for faith inclusion and how they can support workplaces to open up rather than close down sensitive conversations, enabling you to meet the needs of your diverse teams and support everyone to thrive at work.…

    Religious Diversity in the Workplace

    National Physical Laboratory, Hampton Rd, Teddington TW11 0LW. 12.00 – 13.00
In our multi-cultural society, we regularly interact with people who have different religions, faiths, or non-religious core-beliefs. Unfortunately, UK culture has historically avoided talking about this topic, resulting in wide-spread misinformation, prejudice, and discrimination. It’s time to create a more healthy dialogue around personal faith and belief, but it’s not easy to know how to get started. This session invites representatives from different UK institutions to share their experiences of supporting organisational and cultural change. We will hear from the Office of National Statistics, the National Physical Laboratory, and University of Leeds, including time for questions from the audience.

Penny Owen (Environment, Social and Governance Director at NPL) will be joined by Steve Martin-Drury – Statistical methodologist and member of the ONS All-Belief Network at the Office for National Statistics; Sebastian Wood – Principal Research Scientist at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), and co-founder of the NPL Faith and Religious Diversity Group; and Maria Hussain – Lecturer in Business Management at Leeds University Business School and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy who also Co-Chairs the Muslim Staff Network at the University of Leeds.
