A week to focus on inter faith understanding and cooperation

Inter Faith Week 2018 - 11-18 November

Inter Faith Week 2018 takes place from 11 to 18 November.  Why an ‘8 day week’? This year, the Week begins on Remembrance Sunday, the centenary of Armistice Day, and many people of different faiths and beliefs will be marking that in some way. It is hoped that the additional Sunday will provide the opportunity for other weekend events to take place.

Building good relationships and working partnerships between people of different faiths and beliefs is part of the year-round work of many people and organisations across the UK. Having a special Week provides a focal point, helping to open inter faith activity up to a wider audience so that more and more people are made aware of the importance of this vital work and are able to participate in it.

  • Message from Trustees of the Inter Faith Network:

Inter faith understanding and cooperation are a vital part of living well together in our increasingly diverse United Kingdom. Inter Faith Week is an excellent time to highlight this and to widen involvement in joint social action projects, dialogue and learning. We are heartened by the number of bodies – from workplaces to faith groups, sports bodies, schools, colleges, public agencies and many others – who are planning events for this year. We hope even more will join them.

  • In a message about the Week, Prime Minister Theresa May said:

Inter Faith Week is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the incredible diversity and richness of faith communities in Britain. It is also a chance for people of all faiths to come together and to highlight the invaluable contribution they collectively make to their neighbourhoods and to wider society.

  • Message from Minister with responsibility for faith and integration and cohesion

We are greatly enriched by the diversity of faiths that call our country home, all of whom play an integral part in their local communities. Inter Faith Week is a terrific way for people to learn from one another and celebrate the tremendous amount we have in common.

Lord Bourne of Aberystwyth, Minister with responsibility for faith and integration and cohesion at the Department for Communities and Local Government
