Southampton Stories marks Inter Faith Week: The story of a chapel and gurdwara

Tuesday 10 November

Southampton City Council, Civic Centre, Southampton SO14 7LY

This week is #InterFaithWeek. Southampton is home to many people of different faiths and places of worship. In 1861 a new Wesleyan Methodist Chapel was built Peterborough road, to cater for the growing Southampton Methodist community.
The Chapel was badly damaged during bombing in the Second World War, but continued holding services throughout the war, until 1950. The building was then sold in 1952 and was used as a furniture warehouse. In 1970 the building again became a place of worship when it was brought by Southampton's Sikh community and became Gurdwara Nanaksar, the city’s second Gurdwara. This video shows the transformation from Chapel to Gurdwara.
