Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhi and the first Sikh Guru was born in 1469, and this year marks his 550th birth anniversary.
The Guru travelled over 16,000 miles across Asia and the Middle East on journeys known as the Udasis, spreading the word of spiritual truth, peace and compassion. During those extensive travels, he engaged in debates and discussions with people from diverse faiths and backgrounds, treating everyone as equals in the eye of the Almighty.
In memory of the Guru's travels, this evening will be an interfaith celebration with guests from the many countries that Guru Nanak is said to have visited. There will be speeches and kirtan (spiritual music), along with readings and reflections on the Guru's life and teachings.
