Celebrating Inter Faith Week & Remembrance Sunday - Leeds GB Group
Friday 16 November
Woodsley Road, Hyde Park, Leeds, LS6 1SB
Girls' Brigade Leeds Group hosted a truly 'joined up' Act of Remembrance. Displays of cascading poppies provided the background to a service attended by regular members of the Methodist Congregation, the local Boys' Brigade and Girls' Brigade groups, the congregation of nearby All Hallows Anglican Church, members of the Scout group from The Leeds Grand Mosque and members of the Scouts from the Jewish community.
Just before 11am, we watched a video produced by ‘Lifewords with HOPE UK’ and the chimes of Big Ben counted us down to the 2-minute silence, shared together in mutual respect. The silhouette of the 'There but not there' figure sat alongside a 10-year-old young girl from GB, a symbol of our joint prayers for a more peaceful future for all.'
Stones of peace made by local children were distributed and placed along the roadside from the Methodist Church to The Leeds Grand Mosque as we walked there together to hear about the Muslim involvement in the war and to share refreshments.
