The first day of Inter Faith Week it is also Mitzvah Day.

Mitzvah Day is a Jewish led day of social action. On Mitzvah Day, around the world, thousands of people take part in hands on projects, without fundraising, to support charities and to build stronger communities.  Mitzvah Day is based on the Jewish values of tikkun olam (repairing the world), tzedek (righteousness) and gemilut chassadim (acts of lovingkindness).

The goal of Mitzvah Day is to reduce hardship and poverty and to help the environment. People are encouraged to volunteer for projects in their communities and anyone can take part regardless of their background.

A number of projects which took place on Sunday 20 November 2011 were arranged to mark both Inter Faith Week and Mitzvah Day. Mitzvah Day actively encourages projects which partner with other faith communities and mark both Inter Faith Week and Mitzvah Day. Further information about Mitzvah Day and inter faith activity can be found here.

There is also a Sewa Day which takes place in September. Click here for details.
